Introducing Our New CORE ADVENTURE Kitesurfing Tour in the Cocos (K) Islands

WORLD-CLASS KITESURFING THAT YOU CAN ONLY DREAM OF!
Since 2005, Zephyr Kite Tours has been delivering world-class kitesurfing experiences in the pristine waters of the Cocos (Keeling) Islands. We’ve built a reputation for offering high-end, all-inclusive kitesurfing holidays that take care of everything for our guests.
Now, for 2025, we’re excited to introduce a new option—the Cocos Core Adventure Kite Tour, designed for the budget-conscious traveller who still wants to experience the magic of Cocos but with more flexibility and at a lower price point.

This is for you if you love kitesurfing and want to experience the Cocos (K) Islands without the premium price tag. Whether you’re an independent traveller, an adventurer looking for more flexibility, or a kiter who doesn’t need every luxury but still values a well-organised, high-quality trip—this tour offers the perfect balance of affordability and experience.
If you’re a beginner kitesurfer looking to improve your skills, or you’re an experienced kiter wanting to push your limits, you can take advantage of one-on-one lessons with an experienced coach at a 30% discount off our regular rates. We’ve got you covered!
The Cocos Islands is a place you can enjoy with partners and friends while you kitesurf in paradise. Our Cocos Core Adventure Kite Tour is the perfect option to bring along your non-kiting plus-1.
Take the time to rest, relax, and rejuvenate in a hammock beneath a coconut palm. You can also explore the crystal-clear waters on a stand-up paddleboard or go snorkeling in the stunning Cocos Lagoon, where you can discover amazing marine life. The choice is yours!
We have a special rate on offer for non-kiting guests that can be added to your booking at checkout.
KITE BEACH
Nestled under shady palm trees and protected by the steady trade winds, the Zephyr Kite Shack is your ultimate base at Kite Beach. Equipped with everything you need—sun lounges, shade, kite and board storage, plus cooking and dining facilities—it ensures you’re always comfortable. An esky full of ice keeps your refreshments perfectly chilled after a big session on the water.
Our 11-seater Toyota Troopcarrier, along with our gear trailer, will provide daily pickups from your accommodation to ensure a seamless experience. On the water, our support boat offers essential reassurance during lessons, adventures, and downwinders. It is the only kite-specific rescue vessel in the Cocos lagoon, giving you peace of mind as you push your limits.

LOCATION
The Cocos (Keeling) Islands, located in the centre of the Indian Ocean, approximately 3000kms NW of Perth, sit smack-bang in the middle of the winter trade winds, which is why we take you there in July, August and September each year.
With an average of 20 knots all winter, 28C all-day every-day, and a refreshing water temp, the Cocos Islands offers the perfect winter escape with guaranteed winds of perfection.
In the warm beautiful tropical waters, you’ll be forever dodging turtles and reef sharks, and if you’re lucky, maybe even giant manta rays!
GETTING THERE
The Cocos Islands is an Australian owned territory. While it is officially a part of Western Australia, the Cocos has their own administrator who looks after the Indian Ocean Territories, which includes Christmas Island.
Virgin Australia flies to the Cocos twice a week from Perth, and prices range from $1,500 – $2,000 return (we know you could go to Bali and back three times for the same price, but would you have it all to yourself)? With limited seats available, booking your tour and flights early is essential. We will advise you to book your flights after you have received confirmation of your spot on tour.
As Cocos is a tax-free territory, you’ll be flying out of the international terminal in Perth. It’s recommended that you carry your passport and driver’s license for clearing customs.
INSURANCE
At Zephyr tours, we support an environment whereby the safety of yourself and others can be assured. We want our clients and staff to feel safe and confident knowing that they have the best possible cover in the unforeseen event of an accident or injury. A Kitesurfing Australia membership will be compulsory for all Australian residents booked to participate in a Zephyr Tours kitesurfing activity (kitesurfing tours, kitesurfing lessons, and/or kitesurfing guided adventure). A membership with Kiteboarding Australia offers “the most comprehensive public liability insurance for extreme water sports giving you up to 20m AUD in cover. Public liability coverage includes recreational participation. The program also includes a Personal Accident policy which is available to members kitesurfing recreationally and in events.” For more information on policy details and membership pricing, head to the Kitesurfing Australia website.
Travel Insurance is compulsory for all international guests and is highly recommended for anyone booked on a Zephyr Tour.
- In the event you are injured before, on, or after your tour, your travel insurance may cover non-refundable deposits, flights, balances, emergency evacuations, and medical expenses.
- Travel delays and lost/delayed baggage is common, resulting in additional food and accommodation costs, kite gear hire, and personal belonging expenses. Travel Insurance may help to offset some of these additional expenses.
PHONE COVERAGE
There is no phone coverage on the Cocos Islands. While we support taking a break from technology, should you need to stay connected to the real world, there is limited internet available at your accommodation provider. We also suggest switching on wifi calling (check the manufacturers instructions) before leaving the mainland and leaving your phone on Airplane Mode once you have landed. This will enable you to make and receive calls while your phone is connected to a wifi network.
DELUXE ACCOMMODATION
To keep it simple, we’ve included accommodation based on twin-share into our tour packages.
If you are a solo traveller and want a deluxe room all to yourself (or if you snore), add the single supplement (which is equal to half the room cost per night) at the time of booking.
WHERE WE STAY
For our Cocos Core Adventure Kitesurfing Tour, we have secured Cocos Cottages for accommodation. Each cottage features two rooms that share a bathroom, along with a fully equipped kitchen and a large undercover deck with a day lounge. Each cottage can accommodate a maximum of three people.
Located in a quiet residential area, the cottages boast spacious bedrooms and extensive outdoor areas, including an on-site BBQ. They are within easy walking distance of the grocery store, tennis courts, Cocos Club, restaurants, and various other facilities.
MORE THAN JUST KITESURFING
We believe that the best holidays are those where you can fully immerse yourself in the local culture and experience everything the destination has to offer. Besides kitesurfing, there are many optional activities to enjoy. You will never be bored here in paradise!
Some of our favourite things to do in Cocos are:
ISLAND FOOD
Due to the remote nature of the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, dining and grocery options are limited. Many visitors bring a polystyrene esky of food from Perth to supplement their meals.
In addition to this, the island offers various food options that will enhance your holiday experience.
DO I NEED MY OWN KITESURFING EQUIPMENT TO JOIN THIS TOUR?
The short answer is YES. You’ll need to bring your own kitesurfing gear. However, if you don’t have equipment or are considering an upgrade, we can assist with a hire/buy package through our partner store, Ocean Addicts.
We’re often asked if we can rent out our gear to guests while they’re in the Cocos (Keeling) Islands. Unfortunately, this isn’t something we can typically offer. If you’re unfamiliar with how the islands operate, this might be difficult to understand. Zephyr must bring every piece of kitesurfing equipment needed for the entire season—months of planning, ordering, and shipping goods months in advance, go into ensuring everything arrives on time. Each year, Ben & Cat travel to the islands with a total of 12 bags. Given these logistical challenges, it’s simply not feasible for us to provide rental equipment for all our clients, which is why we offer the hire/buy package.
PREMIUM EQUIPMENT HIRE/BUY
Our hire/buy package, facilitated by Ocean Addicts, offers a flexible solution. You can hire a complete kite setup for a set price, and Ocean Addicts will ship the gear to you before your holiday begins, allowing you to bring it with you to the island. After your trip, you have the option to purchase the equipment—minus the hire fee—giving you an affordable way to test and invest in new gear.
