Getting to Paradise
They say that good things are not always easy to acquire….
The Cocos sits in the middle of the Indian Ocean about 2,500kms north West of Perth. Virgin Australia have a contract with the Australian Government to service the Indian Ocean Territories which also include Christmas Island.
There are 2 flights a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Each day there is a round trip landing on both Islands.
Tuesdays are Perth -> Christmas -> Cocos -> Perth.
Saturdays are Perth -> Cocos -> Christmas -> Perth.
This it the only reliable way to get to Cocos and flights start from ~$950 rtn if booked early and can increase to ~$1500+ during peak times and as the seats sell out.
All flights to the Cocos are a strict 23kg baggage allowance with 7kg’s carry on – additional bags may be added.
When checking availability or booking your own flights:
- Ensure you have a CONFIRMATION booking from us with dates.
- GO TO Virgin Australia WEBSITE
- SELECT Perth, Sydney or Melbourne —> Cocos return on the EXACT dates of our tours advertised.
(If interstate flights to Perth do not show up – search for connecting flights separately).
Are you coming from the East Coast?
Some connecting flights to and from the East Coast are now available on Tuesdays & Saturdays only but we do recommend stopping over in Perth or getting only VIRGIN connecting flights in the event they change.
We strongly recommend travel insurance from the date you make a booking. This ensures you will be refunded if you injure yourself before your tour or on tour.
Although the Cocos is an Australian Territory and has a hospital on both Islands, serious injuries require Medi-vac’s to Perth which can be very costly.
ALSO.. Flights, airline carriers and the Australian government control services to the Island and at times may change, cancel or delay your travel with not much warning so we strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance with your initial booking.
CHRISTMAS ISLAND ANYONE?
Why not stop at Christmas Island for a different kind of holiday? Awesome diving, fishing & exploring around this wild Indian Ocean Volcanic Island. Contact Island Explorer Holidays or the Christmas Island Visitor Centre for details & bookings.
